Sandler UK’s Proven Process for Hiring Salespeople

Why is a well-planned process so important for hiring salespeople?

Deciding on a new hire is never easy. But for sales managers and business leaders, hiring the right sales professional for your team can be even more difficult. Salespeople are the face of your business and make the first contact with potential customers. Therefore they need the right personality and approach to effectively represent and promote your business.

Your 5-step process for hiring effective salespeople

Our easy-to-follow process for hiring sales professionals will help you find the right people to grow your business. Take a look at the five steps below and download the guide for all the details.

Interview

Once CVs and applications have been reviewed, it’s time to interview the strongest candidates. The interview is your first chance to see if candidates can back up what they say on paper. To judge them properly, arrange face-to-face meetings. If that is impossible, then video meetings are the next best thing. However, at this stage, it is still too early to finalise hiring decisions.

Roleplay

It is vital to test candidates to see how well they perform in a sales scenario. Come up with a typical sales situation they will be involved in if hired and play the role of the customer to test their preparation and sales style firsthand.

Psychometrics

A great way to better understand what makes candidates want to sell and if they will fit in your team and management style is to use psychometric testing. These tests don’t provide a yes or no answer regarding hiring decisions. However, they can provide impartial data on candidates, so you can learn more about their personality and drive.

Cookbook and KPI discussion

Help candidates understand the level of sales activity you expect. In this way, you can see if you are on the same page in terms of KPIs and what the typical workday will look like. This will remove any nasty surprises after you hire them for the role.

Map out the onboarding

The hiring process should not end once you have decided to employ a candidate. Ensure a clear and well-planned onboarding process is in place that offers a quality experience and prepares them to start selling as efficiently as possible.
